~ The Beginning ~
The wind rustled the leaves as the uneasy group of four stallions and one filly watched the surrounding area. Their eyes anticipating the return of the juvenile stallion who had offered to scout the area for them. Reports said of an intrusion on the land, that a large herd of fearsome stallions where plotting to take over this land and kill all it's current inhabitants. So far they had breached the main borders of the land and had continued to move further in, killing every mare, stallion and foal they could find. The once 26 strong herd was down to just 6 members. Their only advantage was their wisdom of their land, they knew every clearing in the forest, every passing through the deep rivers that wound through the trees. The loud squeal of a horse in pain breached the once silent forest, the group became nervous and uneasy. Their eyes scanned the area as their tension grew.
Soon a large herd of around 30 stallions emerged from the woods, their strides were confident and proud. Each one held a vicious look as they surrounded the group. But all hope was not lost, not yet anyway. The young filly snorted loudly, her nostrils flaring in disgust the stallion she stood beside looked down at the filly and shook his head. He backed up and closed his eyes. He had lost everything, his mares, his land and all but one of his children. Hi eyes re-opened as the herd advanced on them, but stopped yards from the small group when the lead ordered them to halt. The stallion came forth, his head raised as he watched the filly bare her teeth and attempt to lunge herself at him. An amused chuckle erupted from the stallion and he beckoned to one of the stallions who he led.
"Hello brother" Came the voice of the stallion who continued to watch the filly, when the other stallion did not answer he looked up to the fillies father.
"Well? Are you not going to answer your older brother?" He demanded and smiled when the stallion mumbled a hello.
"Now as you may see I've come to claim what is rightfully mine. However I'd also like another thing from you" He said eying his niece with a look that could not be read. The fillies father looked at his daughter then shook his head.
"Then she will die first" He said and moved closer. The filly lunged forth but was thrown back to her fathers side by a stallion. Her father snorted a loud warning and stood in front of his daughter.
"Fine, but if you hurt her. I swear to the gods I'll rise from my grave" He said through clenched teeth. The filly watched her father then her uncle and sighed, she now understood what was happening. Her uncle was to care for and raise her. The filly pawed the ground and watched her uncle as he nodded.
"as you wish" he said and motioned with his muzzle for two stallions to come forth and lead his niece away. Once gone her father stepped up to his brother.
"Why do you want her? Because her dam was the love of your life? because you want to cause me pain?" he demanded. The other stallion chuckled and shook his head tutting.
"She is my niece, I wouldn't want to kill her" He said.
"But you wouldn't take a second thought to kill your own brother and other nephews and nieces." He said and backed up, whilst they had been talking the herd had moved in, closing all means of escape and hope.
~ 2 years later ~
"Midnight!" Roared the stallion two years later as he searched for his niece. The once small and young black filly was now a stunning pure black mare. Her body was now muscle and since being raised by her uncle she had been turned into a brutal fighter.
"Coming!" She called and raced to her uncles side. The stallion watched as she moved flawlessly towards him and smiled.
"I want you to meet someone" he said and watched as a stallion around her age moved towards them, his muscles rippled at each step he took. His neck was arched and it was clear he had Arabian blood in him just like Midnight had in her. Midnight's head raised and her ears pinned back as she watched the stallion come closer. A loud snort entwined with a neigh breached the silence.
"Hello Midnight, I've hear much about you" He said and bowed his head.
"That's a shame because I've heard nothing of you" she said scowling as her uncle and the herd left them to talk. he knew what her uncle wanted, but she wasn't going to give in. She wasn't going to mate with this stallion whom he wanted her to.
"Well I am known as Zorro" he said and watched Midnight as she flexed her muscles by moving her legs impatiently. "
Very nice to meet you Zorro, but I must leave" she said and turned, kicking her hooves back as she moved into a gallop heading to her uncle.
"No" she said as she passed him, racing of. Her uncle shook his head and waited for Zorro. Zorro shook his head and watched the stallion "She is not interested." Zorro said.
"You will get your chance" snapped the stallion and neighed calling his herd to follow Midnight.
"Come" he said and they raced off.
~ Month Later ~
A month had passed since Midnight had gone missing, the herd were not concerned, just angered. She was supposed to be mates to Zorro. Since she had gone missing Zorro had been torn apart thinking it was him.

Midnight pawed at the dying scrubs of the open plains, she was no longer kind and polite but had turned very much since changed her personality and ways. She was harsh and feisty, she didn't take kindly to horses who threatened her in the slightest of ways.
"Got to find a new life" Midnight said to herself aloud as she trotted towards a line of mountains, beyond them she knew not of what laid there, but that was what she sought to find out.
~ 1 year later ~
The friesian mare's mane blew wildly around in the strong wind as she climbed down the mountains. It had taken a long time to get here, but the prize was worth wile. A beautiful forest that was so large it was unbelievable, just the land she liked. She wandered for days through the dense forest until she nearly reached the center, but what she found there surprised her, large fury predators that tried to kill her lived there, she soon learned to avoid those places yet still be well hidden within the trees.
Midnight neighed softly and watched a passing wolf, it snarled and stared at her with unblinking eyes as though she was just a hallucination and if the wolf blinked she'd be gone. Which was in half true. For the moment the wolf looked away Midnight would bolt into the shadows and the wolf would think it was his mind playing tricks on him.
